The Yateley syndicate

Yateley is one of the hotbeds of UK carp fishing, and ever since I was a lad I’ve wanted a Yateley thirty in my album. This year I joined the stunning Little Moulsham syndicate run by CWA Fisheries hoping to fulfil that boyhood ambition. This film runs you through my fishing on the 10-acre lake during July and August, culminating in the capture of the second biggest carp in the lake known as The Leadcore Lin. I talk tactics and baiting strategies, and introduce my new ‘carp dog’ to the channel.

Escaping the crowds

This month I’m out in the beautiful English countryside fishing one of the most picturesque syndicate waters in Leicestershire. Knipton reservoir contains a mixed stock of carp to mid-forties and is run by AJS Fisheries. I’m at the venue for 72 hours just after the spawning closure. The carp are all held up in the thick weed beds but with some careful bait placement and the right tactics I go on to land several nice fish into low-thirties. For more info on joining this venue, visit www.ajsfisheries.com.

Scar from Farriers Lake

Lady Luck is well and truly on my side when my first ever visit to The Carp Society’s Farriers Lake results in its biggest resident Scar at 48lb 15oz. The stunning Gloucestershire venue is home to some colossal carp. I’m only at the lake for an overnight trip so I’m pretty much going in blind. I run through the tactics I use on my first visit, bait and rig choice, and I also catch a lovely 30-pound common within an hour of arriving. When your mate catches the biggie at 51lb from the next door swim

Carp fishing isn’t just about what you catch, it’s also about the special memories you share with others. This month I was fortunate to be on the bank fishing next to my mate Gav Riddell when he caught his first UK fifty-pounder, from The Sitch in Shropshire. The film includes bankside chat about working in the carp fishing trade as a sponsored angler, before closing with Gav’s amazing fish and the story of how carp fishing saved his life.

How to fish ‘days-only’ waters

This month I’ve been down in Staffordshire looking after my mum who lives on her own. Thankfully the lovely Dawford Pool is just around the corner, where I made three day trips in late February. This beautiful venue is open to all, and contains a fantastic stock of stunning carp. In this short film I get lucky by landing the ‘Most Wanted’ carp in the Pool at 30+. I also talk about my approach to ‘days-only’ carping, covering tactics, baiting up and gear choice. For more information on Dawford, contact Ed Matthews on Facebook or Instagram.
